About Fortress Segmental Kevlar®

Structural Repairs, a leading company in the UK, has adopted the Fortress Segmental Kevlar® system as part of their cutting-edge repair technology to address the persistent issue of segmental joint deterioration in bridges and box culverts.
These joints often require frequent repairs due to the corrosion of failed reinforcement steel, as traditional sealants struggle to provide long-term protection for the seams, allowing water and salt to penetrate and cause steel degradation.

The Fortress Segmental Kevlar® system, utilised by Structural Repairs, features a proprietary weave that incorporates DuPont Kevlar® fibres to create an additional layer of protection across the seams before the overlay is installed.
This innovative approach ensures enhanced durability and longevity of the repaired structure.

The repair process involves scarifying the surface area, applying a two-lift epoxy, placing the Kevlar® in position, and then rolling it out with more epoxy.
Finally, an aggregate is broadcast over the Kevlar, preparing the surface for the final overlay.
This comprehensive approach ensures a robust and reliable repair that can withstand the challenges posed by the UK's weather conditions and heavy traffic loads.
