Save the Façade: Preserving Masonry and Historic Structures with Invisible Repairs
Cracks, bowing walls, and dropped arches are not just cosmetic issues; they are warning signs that the structural integrity of your building is compromised.
Whether caused by ground subsidence, lintel failure, or thermal expansion, masonry defects rarely heal themselves. If left untreated, a simple hairline crack can escalate into a major structural failure, leading to water ingress, instability, and eventually, the need for partial demolition.
The Solution is not to rebuild. Structural Repairs specialises in Masonry Stabilisation – using high-tensile helical steel bars and resin to reinforce the existing brickwork, restoring its load-bearing capacity without the disruption of taking the wall down.

The “Invisible Surgery” for Brickwork
We treat the masonry as a composite structure. By introducing stainless steel reinforcement into the bed joints, we effectively turn a weak, cracking wall into a strong “masonry beam” that distributes loads evenly.
Our Core Stabilisation Techniques:
- Crack Stitching: We chase out the mortar beds and install helical bars with high-performance grout. These bars stitch the two sides of the fracture together, preventing further movement while allowing natural thermal expansion.
- Lateral Restraint: For walls that are bowing or separating from the floor joists, we install lateral restraint ties. These connect the façade back to the internal timber floor diaphragm, securing the wall in place without the need for unsightly pattress plates.
- Lintel Repair: Failed soldier courses or sagging window arches can often be saved. We install masonry reinforcement above the opening to create a new load-bearing lintel within the brickwork itself.
Our engineers execute all brickwork remediation and material matching in accordance with the strict technical standards defined by the Brick Development Association.
Why Stabilise Instead of Rebuild?
For heritage properties and commercial assets, retaining the original fabric is crucial. Our methods are non-disruptive and, crucially, invisible.
The Engineering Benefits
- Cost Efficiency: Stabilisation is typically 70% cheaper than demolishing and rebuilding a compromised wall.
- Heritage Preservation: We save the original bricks and point the repair with colour-matched mortar (including lime for period properties). Once finished, the repair is virtually undetectable.
- Speed of Delivery: Most stabilisation projects are completed in days, not weeks. There is no need for temporary propping, heavy plant, or decanting tenants.
